Q. What is included in the price of training course?

A. The price includes the trainer, training venue and course materials. You will be expected to provide yourself with the appropriate reference books for your course.

Q. How many people will be on the course with me?
A. To ensure the quality of our training, the maximum number of participants is limited and will vary from course to course.  The maximum number of participants on any course is 25.

Q. Will I receive a formal qualification at the end of my course?
A. None of our Black History Studies Courses lead to a formal qualification, and consequently there are no exams that you will need to take as part of them. Students will, however, receive certificates for full attendance and Robin Walker is happy to be used as an academic referee.

Q. When can I enrol for a course?
A. Enrolment for our courses is normally possible once our courses have been published. We continue to accept enrolments up until a week before the start of the courses.

Q. How old do I have to be to enrol on a Black History Studies course?
A. Students should be at least 18 years old. Students who are 16 or 17 years of age may receive special permission, but he/she must contact Black History Studies to discuss whether the course is their best option.

Q. Can I join a course that is already underway?
A. For most courses, we can continue to accept students up to approximately three weeks after the start of the course. This can vary from course to course, and is subject to places still being available. We cannot normally offer a reduction in the fee for people who join a course late.

Q. How can I pay for a course, tour ticket?
A. Payment can be made by cash, cheque, or bank transfer.

Q. Can fees be paid in instalments?

A. Unfortunately Black History Studies do not offer the facility to pay fees in instalments. The fee advertised for the course must be paid in full at the time of enrolment. Payment is possible by cheque, bank transfer or cash. Cash payments must be made in person (please do not post cash) and with the correct money.

Q. What if I know I will not be able to attend all the sessions?
A. As the Black History Studies Courses are fee-paying adult education classes, attendance is not compulsory. However, your progress will obviously be limited if you do not attend regularly or complete the required reading between classes. If you are unable to attend a class, please can you inform Black History Studies.

Q. Can I get a refund?
A. Students withdrawing from the course are not entitled to a refund. Fees will be refunded only in the following circumstances:

  • Where the course is cancelled prior to course commencing, tuition fees will be refunded in full.
  • Exceptional circumstances, e.g. on medical grounds with a Doctor's certificate.

There will be a £10 administration charge. If you need to cancel your enrolment please give us as much notice as possible. No cash refunds are made.
